Hello! Welcome to the blog for the Taiwan Mission Team from the Chinese Evangelical Church of Portland 2014!
This is where we will keep you guys updated on our preparations, blessings, struggles, and ways God has used us and grown us in those struggles.
We had our first training session all together last week on May 17th. With some students in college with different breaks, it's been a bit of a struggle getting everyone all together. Thankfully, we had Nathan Lu and Hannah Ott finish up school in California and so they were finally able to join us. Doris Wang and Angelica Wang made the long trip down from Seattle to be in Portland and we were very thankful that they could! Here are finally some pictures of the whole team together!
At the start of being on the Taiwan team, we began by going through a book called Humility by Andrew Murray. This week we spent the morning going over 2 chapters about the connections between faith, death to self, and humility lead by Mr. Lu. Some important themes from the time we spent on it I think can be summarized by some quotes from the book.
"Humility is 'simply the disposition which prepares the soul for living on trust... Salvation comes through a cross and a crucified Christ."
It was a good reminder of the importance of humility in our faith of God as well as how this reliance on God leads to selflessness and a death to self.
After this, we went through our responsibilities on the trip including creating some booths imitating London activities (e.g. Opera House, Breakfast Cafe, Hospital, Clothing Shop, etc.), and two skits! One is about an apprehensive rainbow bean who must make a leap of faith, and the other is a rendition of Cinderella!
Graciously, the Lus provided food for us, delicious croissant sandwiches, and a cheesecake celebrating the Nathan's graduation!
After eating, we went over more of what we will actually be experiencing, and what the campsites will be like!
I will end this post with our prayer requests for now. Thank you for reading! And we appreciate your prayers (:
1. Please pray that we will be able to prepare well for this trip. Many of us are still in school and have a lot of responsibilities. But, since we will not actually be able to directly share the Gospel with the kids during the week, putting in a lot of effort is imperative to show the students we care about them and make them curious about our faith. This will enable us to then invite them to a Gospel presentation at the end of the week and by God's grace, we hope they will see our efforts and make them hungry for more of what we have to tell them.
2. We will be running two junior high camps along with the Taiwan Teams and the second camp only has around 10 people signed up to come. We pray that God will bring more students to come learn English and the Good News of who He is.
3. We are very thankful for all the provisions that God has given us monetarily. We have almost reached our goal already of ~$25,000 and we still have a month to go. Thank you for all who have contributed and prayed for us.
4. While we are preparing here in America, there are two Taiwan teams also preparing to run the camps. Please pray for them in their preparations as well as our future interactions. That they will be God glorifying and reflect the unity that we have in the body of Christ.
