Imma Let You Finish But... Dongshi is the Best Camp Ever!

What's up everyone! It's Timmy and Nathan (the... twins?) here to tell you about day 3 of Dongshi! BUG BITE UPDATE: I (Tim) have not gotten a mosquito bite yet (I'M INVINCIBLE!). Pee update (from Nate): I pee twice a day. It's great. And really concentrated. And probably really unhealthy... I swear I drink enough water. I think.

Before we tell you about our day, we wanted to give you an idea of what Dongshi looks like, and what it's most famous for... OYSTERS or (eeh-ah). Check out this mountain of oyster shells:
These oyster shells attached to plastic lines get thrown out to sea. Like magic, six months later, oysters.
 Lets take a closer look...
Apparently you can eat the oysters raw. They're sweet?
Here is an example of our writing notes for students :). Check out Phillip's boxers.
So since none (not many) of us can write Chinese (sorry parents, we didn't actually learn much in Chinese class), we all pulled out our phones in order to write to our kids.
Now.. on to our day. We started off with a big breakfast of assorted things: everything from PB&J to rice porridge or cong you bing. After devotions and eating, we mobilized towards school where we were immediately met by our students. I (Tim) had the opportunity to give a testimony to my small group, where they had the opportunity to ask questions like what is the biggest difference between Tawian and America (my answer was being able to flush toilet paper). After our morning session we sang Peace like a River and Deep Deep Down with the kids (YES I LOVE MY JESUS!). After that fun time of sing and play (which included follow the leader rock paper scissors), we broke off into stations. Some people made crafts like chocolate or bottle rockets or colored sand or oragami, but the REAL men played basketball in the scorching heat (these battle scars... or sun burns). Check out the crafts below:
Activities included: putting salt in a bottle, melting chocolate and putting random things in it, folding multicolored paper, getting sunburnt whilst putting a ball through a hoop, following a creepy voice telling us to clap/cha cha/stomp etc..., and playing with water bottle rockets.
After station games and lunch, we went on to our ground games. Here's a selfie with the best group evar below: (He lies. Group 2 is the best. Most obedient. kids. ever.
Group 3 is the best!
More pictures of arts and crafts, this flower is pretty sweet.
Jack, the cool kid in our (Nathan's) class bought true love the other day. Today he chose to make paper flowers instead of play ninja. That kid is a romantic. He also looks like a model. Male model. mmm.
This ones for you mom! Nate wrote a card entirely in Chinese! (I, Tim also wrote my students notes in chinese, just not as... beautiful as this).
This was actually a thank you card for the student's parents for letting us visit!

At class end, we all rode the bus to visit our students.
They call me the lady killer. bam. slay those ladies.
After visiting students (like the cutest kid EVAR, Jason) we tried our best to imitate a clown car.
Hi Doris! Also, how many asians fit in a car?
While visiting our students, we came across a student who lives with her grandparents. It's pretty common here as many families are torn apart and kids get raised by their grandparents. This particular girl was bullied a lot as a kid, even at church. sad life. Since she said she likes to draw, Hannah gave her this cartoon of Iggy the dragon! Hopefully she likes it :D

Iggy likes cookies. I mean... Cooookies.
After Ben and I (Tim) led worship (without a guitar because of broken string), we broke off and were supplied with some delicious ice cream, namely mango popscicles. Mmmmmmm... Ben got his daily fix of pearl milk tea in the form of an ice cream bar.
Hannah loves it. Cannot. Contain. the. Joy.

So Delicious....
PRAYER REQUESTS:

  1. Energy, a lot of us are constantly exhausted this week, whether that is because of the weather or a lack of sleep, please pray that we have the strength to properly serve God and serve these kids. We also haven't really had many chances to debrief and have accountability. More than simply being physically tired, many of us are emotionally tired. Serving has been amazing, but I think we all can say that rest is very very very very very very welcome.
  2. Pray for the students hearts that they would be opened more and more each day to what God has to tell them. One of my students (Nathan speaking) has been reading the bible on her own. She asked me if I read the Bible in Chinese (I think she thinks I don't speak English a lot or something...) but she was disappointed that I didn't read it in Chinese because there are some things she doesn't get. So I sent her to Pastor Caleb and she got her questions about Matthew 10 answered (loving your father and mother). She's an only child and I think there are some problems in her family. In addition, she probably isn't allowed to go to church. Pray that kids like this will have the continued curiosity in the Bible and in Christians and that by showing what love we can show them, they can become interested.
  3. Pray for our hearts as well so that we may be open to God's will as well. There's only one day of camp left and the gospel meeting. We want to serve God in the best way possible.
  4. Pray that the ultimate goal is always in mind no matter what happens, good or bad.

  1. Thank you Nate and Tim for your updates. Nate, your Chinese writing improved! But your grammar, hmmm....
STM team, Today is the last day of the camp, enjoy the God given opportunity to serve with the Taiwan coworkers and to intentionally share Gospel with the students of the camp. We will be praying for the Gospel meeting tomorrow. May God work in these young people's hearts and remove all the obstacles so they can come to hear His Word tomorrow.
